Carpenter Technology Corporation to Open Steel Plant in Limestone County

Carpenter Technology Corporation broke ground on their new steel plant in mid-October. The plant will open within the next two-and-a-half years and will employ 200 people. It will be located just north of the Robotics Technology Park on U.S. 31 in Limestone County.

Limestone County was one of 250 world-wide locations considered for the plant. Bernard Mara, VP of CTC's Global Advanced Engineering, has been quoted as saying it's not just the financial benefits Alabama was able to offer that made it the winning choice. Rather, they were looking for "a place that had a good source of labor resources, specific skill sets and the ability to train and develop people where those skill sets don't exist." He went on to say that the quality of life and talent available in Limestone County were the deciding factors.

Carpenter Technology Corporation produces premium alloys, stainless steel and titanium. The new facility in Limestone County will produce over 27,000 tons per year of additional products and will be designed with modern technology to produce these products even faster.
