The City of Athens is the county seat with an historic courthouse square located approximately 1.5 miles west of Interstate 65 and just north of U.S. Highway 72.
 
Limestone County is in the rolling foot hills of the Appalachian Mountains in northern Alabama.  Filled with friendly people and progressive communities, the county stretches from the northern bank of the mighty Tennessee River to the southern boundary of the State of Tennessee.  Limestone County serves as a hub of many business and leisure activities within the region.

Welcome to one of America’s best small town communities, Athens and Limestone County, Alabama. Athens, the county seat, is uniquely located on Interstate 65 in a “triangle of prosperity” formed by Huntsville to the East and Decatur to the south. The commute from most of Limestone County to Gate 9 on Redstone Arsenal is 15 to 30 minutes and not much more from the most distant communities.

Limestone County’s charm lies in its small-town atmosphere, but it is also known as an area that provides investment opportunities for all types of businesses and industries.
